January is Mentoring & Youth Development Month, a time to celebrate the power of guidance, education, and opportunity in shaping the next generation. This month, we highlight the organizations and mentors dedicated to supporting young people through meaningful relationships, skill-building, and educational pathways. Their work empowers youth to build confidence, discover their potential, and develop the tools they need to thrive—creating stronger individuals, communities, and futures for us all.

Bishop Walker School

Mission: To provide a tuition-free, K-5 Episcopal education to boys from underserved communities, fostering their intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth to become leaders, by building academic excellence, moral character, and a love for learning, all within a supportive, faith-based environment that challenges them to reach their full potential and contribute positively to their communities and the world.

Purpose Possible Work: Institutional giving support (grants, reporting) as well as prospecting, and data collection strategy assistance.

I am grateful to work with Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys (BWS) on their institutional fundraising because I see the direct impact of their work on young boys in Washington, D.C. BWS provides a high-quality K–5 education at no cost to families, along with three meals each day and various extracurricular opportunities. Their approach to education supports students academically and socially while preparing them to become confident leaders in their communities.

Georgia Council on Economic Education

Mission: To help K-12 teachers teach economics and personal finance in the public and independent schools of Georgia.

Purpose Possible Work: Fundraising services, including pipeline development and grant writing.

I’ve worked with Mike and his team for several years, helping them find and secure grant funding. Their innovative programs have helped tens of thousands of K-12 teachers and students in Georgia learn about economic concepts and build critical financial literacy skills through interactive, hands-on activities. At a time when the nature of work and earning a living are rapidly changing, their programs are more important than ever. I look forward to continuing to support GCEE, as they continue to evolve and find creative ways to serve teachers and students.

Mission: Closing the opportunity gap through high-quality academics in an engaging and enriching summer learning program.

Purpose Possible Work: Strategic fundraising initiatives such as diversifying their revenue streams, building sustainable donor engagement and re-engagement models, and identifying new philanthropic opportunities. Additionally, pipeline development and grant writing support.
