Purpose in Action: Arts & Culture
This month, we're celebrating arts, culture, and creative expression by shining a light on clients who keep creative conversations going. From black-box stages and free gallery walls to film screens, family archives, and national advocacy networks, these organizations do more than put work in front of audiences: they pay artists, train the next generation, and make space for stories that might otherwise go untold.

Academe of the Oaks
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta's national theater, expanding hearts and minds onstage and off.
Founded in 1968 and a recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award, the Alliance is the leading producing theater in the Southeast, reaching more than 165,000 patrons a year. It has premiered 140+ original productions (including The Color Purple and Aida) and its education programs reach thousands of students annually through performances, classes, camps, and in-school work built for every age, starting with theatre designed for infants and toddlers.
Atlanta Contemporary Art Center
Atlanta Contemporary advances contemporary art by supporting artists, fostering experimentation, and connecting audiences to new ideas.
Founded in 1973 as Nexus, a grassroots artists' cooperative, Atlanta Contemporary presents hundreds of local, national, and international artists each year. It has been free to the public, every single day, since 2015. Its Studio Artist Program offers subsidized on-site studio space to working artists, and it regularly commissions new work from artists who haven't yet had a major exhibition in the Southeast.
Bishop Walker School
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta Film Society’s mission is to lead the community, locally and worldwide, in creative and cultural discovery through the moving image.
Tracing its roots to 1976 as Georgia's first media arts center, Atlanta Film Society is one of the oldest and largest film organizations in the country. It presents the Academy Award-qualifying Atlanta Film Festival, which marked its 50th anniversary in 2026 and draws thousands of submissions from around the globe. Year-round, the Society keeps filmmakers working through screenings, screenwriting intensives, production bootcamps, and its youth filmmaking program.
Breman Museum & Cultural Center
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
The Breman Museum and Cultural Center’s mission is to connect people to Jewish history, culture, and the arts.
Opened in 1996 in Midtown, the Breman is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast. It is part gallery, part cultural center, and part archive. Its Ida Pearle and Joseph Cuba Archives hold tens of thousands of photographs, documents, artifacts, and oral histories documenting Southern Jewish life, and its permanent Holocaust exhibition anchors programming that uses film, music, and visual art to explore human dignity, responsibility, and cross-cultural understanding.
National Association of Latino Arts and Culture
Location: San Antonio, Texas
NALAC is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated exclusively to the promotion, advancement, development, and cultivation of the Latino arts field.
Founded in 1989 by Latinx artists and administrators who saw a gap in how the field was resourced, NALAC works nationally to stabilize and grow the Latino arts and cultural sector through grantmaking, leadership training, convenings, research, and advocacy. Its constituency spans thousands of artists and hundreds of organizations in urban and rural communities alike—a reminder that cultural equity is national infrastructure, not a local nicety.
Seven Stages, Inc.
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Seven Stages is a professional nonprofit theatre company engaging artists and audiences around the social, political, and spiritual values of contemporary culture, with an emphasis on international work and new plays, playwrights, and forms of collaboration.
Open since 1979, Seven Stages has staged 80+ world premieres and has long served as a launching pad for emerging Atlanta theatre and dance companies without a space of their own. Its Youth Creates program hands teenagers the whole process—writing, designing, and performing an original piece for their community.
Synchronicity Theatre
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Synchronicity Theatre’s mission is to uplift the voices of women and girls, and build community through theatre.
Founded in 1997 by four women who wanted to make bold, meaningful work together, Synchronicity describes its theatre as smart, gutsy, and bold. Beyond the stage, its award-winning Playmaking for Girls program and Stripped Bare arts incubator give emerging artists and young writers a place to develop their own voices.
