Frequently Asked Questions

During the discovery process, we get to know your organization's unique needs, goals, and culture. Behind the scenes, we engage in a thoughtful "matchmaking" process to assign the ideal consultant—or team of consultants—to your project. If you are working with a consultant team, one member will serve as your designated Team Lead and primary point of contact.

Our consultants work remotely (with occasional exceptions for key on-site meetings or retreats). Rather than viewing a consultant as a 1:1 employee replacement, we encourage clients to think of us as strategic partners—leveraging our specialized expertise to maximize the impact and efficiency of your investment.

Our diverse team consists of experienced leaders, fundraisers, strategists, communicators, and philanthropic advisors. Because many of our consultants have served as nonprofit staff and executive directors, their approach is deeply informed by the reality of operating small to midsize organizations with limited resources. We bring empathy, enthusiasm, and practical creativity to every client relationship.

We support mission-driven organizations of all sizes and lifecycle stages. However, to ensure you get the absolute most out of a consulting engagement, certain foundational elements (such as baseline financial records, active leadership, or clear operational goals) should be in place first.

Let us know if you need help establishing these foundational elements.

No! We partner with a broad range of mission-driven entities, including private and family foundations, corporate CSR teams, and civic or municipal agencies serving the public good.

Every engagement is tailored to your specific goals and scope. In general, our services usually fall into project-based fees or monthly retainers.

• Fundraising:

  • Ongoing Individual Giving, Grant Writing, or Development Leadership = Retainer/12-month contract with a fixed monthly fee and hours.

  • Fundraising Plans, Database, or CRM Setup = Project fee/ one-time cost based on defined deliverables.

• Strategy & Engagement

  • Strategic Planning = Project fee & typically a 6-month engagement.

  • Board Retreat Facilitation, Succession Planning, Community Engagement = One-time fixed cost tailored to scope.

• Strategic Philanthropy

  • Advisory for Funders & CSR Programs = A project fee or monthly retainer based on scope.

Our Business Development team will craft a detailed proposal outlining our recommended scope of work, timeline, and investment. We welcome your feedback and are happy to adjust the approach or deliverables to better fit your budget and goals. Once finalized, we’ll share a contract for signature.

(Note: All retainer agreements include a flexible clause allowing clients to terminate with a 30-day written notice without penalty.)

Implementation is at the core of what sets Purpose Possible apart. We don't believe in creating strategic plans or fundraising roadmaps that simply gather dust on a shelf.

While we love high-level strategy, we are one of the few consulting firms with the capacity and hands-on experience to stay by your side and bring those recommendations to life. Whether you need ongoing fractional staffing, embedded support from a dedicated team of consultants, or tactical execution for specific campaigns, we roll up our sleeves to work alongside your leadership and execute the plan together.

The short answer: It varies by project, but our primary goal in every engagement is to relieve stress for your team—not create more of it.

While we rely on your internal team and board for key insights, historical context, and decision-making, we handle the heavy lifting. During onboarding, we will establish a clear cadence for check-ins and preferred communication methods, so you know exactly what time commitment is expected at every stage, allowing your team to stay focused on running your day-to-day operations.

Every project is assigned both a lead Consultant and a Client Services Director. If you ever have a concern that isn't resolved directly with your consultant, your Client Services Director is available to step in. They provide overarching quality assurance, ensure deliverables align with your goals, and have the authority to adjust scopes or re-staff the project if necessary.

Our consultants contribute hundreds of volunteer hours annually through board service and community mentorship.

For grassroots or growing nonprofits seeking accessible, high-level guidance on a limited budget, we offer Micro-Consulting—targeted, bite-sized strategy sessions designed to give you immediate, actionable direction without a long-term contract.
